Use outdoor-rated silicone sealant around entry plates and glands, and let it cure completely. For connector joints, use self-fusing silicone tape first, then wrap with quality electrical tape, or use a purpose-made waterproof connector housing. Never rely on electrical tape alone for joints exposed to direct rain.
Always create a drip loop: let the cable hang below the entry point before going up into it. Water runs down the cable and drips off the loop instead of following the cable inside.
Check connections twice a year — before winter and after spring storms. Look for cracked sealant, discolored tape and any signs of corrosion at the connectors.
